Friday, Oct. 21

Ray and I woke early to have a beachside breakfast with Luis, (keep following, the tough part of the mission will come). The rest of the day was spent looking at the different projects, becoming familiar with driving in Mexico, and acquiring material.

About 5:30 pm, our group began emerging from the air terminal. The first ones out were happy, unhurried, glad to see someone they recognized, it was a very relaxed atmosphere. As more came out through the bustle of cab drivers and time share vendors, the sense of urgency became much greater, some even looking over their shoulder as if being chased. HECTOR had struck. Men coming in with children's clothes, girls with tools and men's underwear in their luggage, was way too much for Hector today. Sheila and a couple others were detained, being threatened were alot more fees to pay. We finally all were together headed to the hotel where we ate and spent the night. More on this tomorrow.

Thursday, Oct. 20

Ray and I arrived at the airport in Redmond about 6:00 am, 4 sodukos, 3 airplanes, 4 crossword puzzles later we arrived at San jose del Cabo, greeted by a blast furnace heat as we went through the airplane door. A smiling Pastor Luis waited for us on the other side of a very confused customs officer, the assortment of tools and childrens clothes were a little much for him to deal with. ( You will hear more about "Hector" tomorrow.)

Pastor Luis gave us the van and escorted us to the hotel. After a very good meal we retired for the night, thankful to God for a safe journey,

Packed and ready to go. Adventure awaits, buildings to be built, talks to be given, children to feed, and souls to be touched by God. All in just seven days including travel time. We can do all things through Christ, right?

18 missionaries from Father's House and New Life Fellowship are invading San Jose del Cabo to do work for God's kingdom. I will be posting each day to keep all of you supporting us at home updated. We may be the ones in Mexico but this is a team effort from our churches. Please keep us in your prayers.

Tomorrow morning Ray and I leave early to secure the transportation, donkeys, rickshaws, pogo sticks, something that will get us around in a foreign country. Like I said, "adventure awaits".

Sorry I missed last night, we were flying and driving from 2:00 pm (Cabo time) until 4:15 am (Bend time), I hope that qualifies for some slack.
Yesterday morning we took a little time by the pool before checking out of our hacienda. We had some time on the way to the airport, so we detoured to one of the kitchens we had worked at for some measurements and pictures.
Pastor Luis then took us by the home of one of his congregants. We had sat behind this family on Sunday in worship service; we had seen them singing, praising, and worshipping God with lifted hands; we had no idea of the state of their dwelling place. The five of them, husband, wife, 2 teenage girls and an 8 year old boy live in a 15 by 20 "dwelling." Their walls are pieced together scraps of lumber with a blue tarp pulled over for the roof. Electricity and water come from a neighbor with an extension cord and a hose. The outhouse is comprised of three old pieces of wafer board and a sheet. (They actually feel very blessed because they have a concrete floor rather than dirt.) They have been living there for three years and just three weeks ago finally got mattresses to sleep on. Do you want to hear the astounding part? They want to host a home group!!! We very humbly prayed for them before leaving. As we got back into our car, I believe all of us were fighting back tears. I think Ray was ready to leave everything he had in his wallet to help. It will be very hard for me to hear complaints about what we have or don't have after experiencing that so closely.
The motto "friendly skies" should be changed to "how many planes can we get you onto in one day? skies." We were supposed to get into PDX at 8:30pm, reality was 12:30am. After a snowy drive over the pass and relearning USA driving rules, we made it home--thanks, Clint, for turning on the heat for us cuz it's colder here than we remember. :)
It is so good to be back. I have much more to share; you'll hear it all in the coming weeks. Continue to stay tuned to this station. More happenings coming.

Monday night, January 17...Our last full day before heading home. It was mostly about "us" today. We spent about an hour in the morning getting prices on materials, food, etc. at Home Depot and Wal-Mart, then we had an afternoon of FUN. We drove into San Lucas--oh! have I mentioned that I LOVE driving in Mexico? The rules are more or less there for personal interpretation. I'm sure that's not true, but everyone sure drives like it is!
We went out into the Sea of Cortez on a large catamaran with about 25 other people for a snorkeling adventure. We had a photo op at "Lover's Beach" and the arch at "Land's End." As we were taking our 45-minute cruise to the snorkeling destination, our cruise turned into a whale-watching excursion. We were able to see a gray whale breach a few times; Sheila captured it on camera. We continued on to our snorkeling beach, where, according to the laws here, we HAD to don life vests in order to snorkel, much to Sheila's delight, and much to my dismay. :) The water was pretty cold, so everyone was done within 45 minutes, but lunch was waiting for us, so within minutes we were warm and content.
When we returned to the dock, we walked around, picking up a few little souvenirs (we have grandchildren, you know! and Sheila and Sherrill love the Vanilla for baking that they make down here), and had another fabulous meal.
Back at our room, we settled down for one more game of cards. Ray and I are leaving these cards in Mexico.
Looking forward to being back home--Central Oregon is a GREAT place to come home to! Especially because of the people there. Dios los bendiga. (God bless all of you.)

Sunday glorious night, January 16...phew!!! What a whirlwind of a day! We started out this morning with the goal of being able to Skype with all of you at FH during the morning service. After much frustration on both ends, the forces of technology were not in our favor today! We'll try to win this war another time--hopefully by the time we come back down for our missions trip in the fall!
The morning service started at 11am with sunshine, singing, and prayer. Then we were blessed with Communion. Pastor Luis introduced all of us from the U.S. (we were "special guests"), and thanked us for the keyboard...profusely, I might add. It was very humbling, and to all of you who were able to donate towards that purchase, please know that God is pleased. It sounded great and they were very happy with it! Pastor Luis had asked me to preach, so I spoke, and guess what? I only spoke for twenty minutes!! Now, don't be getting any ideas...my interpreter (Pastor Luis) took twenty minutes interpreting, so I guess my whole message was about forty minutes. ha.
We prayed for several people after service; again, we felt very honored and blessed to be a blessing to these good people.
At about 1:30, we went to the director of the school's home for lunch--wow, what a spread! I think we needed to go back to church to repent of gluttony. Honest. Then we walked a couple of blocks away for dessert at the French Riviera--very chic and modern. (Please note previous blog about spin bike.) During dessert, we were asked if we would like to join in helping at another kitchen in another colony, so we left from that restaurant, went to a grocery store to help purchase food, and traveled to the colony. Pastor Luis & I went down the streets inviting people to eat and to come to a church service (the "kitchen" is there just outside the church) while Ray, Sherrill, and Sheila helped make ham sandwiches. Eliana was there working like crazy, too. She's an Energizer Bunny if I've ever seen one! She and Pastor Luis are amazing people--they truly love God and want to see people's lives transformed.
About 100 people showed up for the service and meal. We were back at our hotel around 7:30pm, happy and tired. We can't really figure out why we're so tired, but we are. :)
Although I'm having a great time with plenty of ministry opportunities, my heart was with you in Bend today as well, thinking about all of my friends worshipping together, and then the sharing that I'm sure happened in Home Groups.
I've already had reports that everything went well today, as I knew it would. We have a wonderful, hard-working group of people. We brag about you all the time, even if it's just to the Lord sometimes in prayer! Thank you for being the church that I miss so much when I'm gone.
I refuse to even mention the card game tonight.

Saturday night, January 15...had a wonderful lunch with Pastor Luis and his wife Eliana. We discussed the upcoming mission trip at length. There is so much need, such as feeding hungry children in "colonies" (the name of super-poor neighborhoods), doing physical labor on the church, providing whatever we can physically and spiritually,...our prayer still needs to be "What exactly do You want us to do, Lord?" It can be overwhelming--the need--so we have to pare down to what we can accomplish and do well in a week's time.
After lunch, we went with Luis & Eliana and helped set up chairs for the service tomorrow. It brought back fond memories of setting up for our tent a few years ago (minus the snow, of course!). As you can imagine, the rest of the afternoon our minds were abuzz with ministry possibilities for FH.
I can see so many of you ministering in different ways here, being stretched, giving, laboring, encouraging, praying, playing, working so hard that you're happily exhausted.
Tonight we ate in-house and read through a possible play for the upcoming dinner theatre. That was fun, to say the least, each of us reading two or three different parts! (Actually, Ray and I were reluctant readers, but alas, all for His glory...)
Did I mention how much fun "Hand & Foot" is? (The boys are back.)
Oh, and "GO, SEAHAWKS!"

Friday night, January 14...another very relaxing day, especially for Sheila and Sherrill who had massages. Ray and I took advantage of that time to go to the hotel we may be staying at for the missions trip and snapped a few pictures. We also went to some stores to do some price comparisons for when we return. All of us have taken advantage of any spare time to read, read, read...oh, and we saw a few whales today! Awesome creatures.
Had another delicious dinner and that's about it for the day. We are supposed to meet with Pastor Luis and Eliana tomorrow and hopefully meet some other pastors down here and a contractor. We are still praying about what God wants us to do exactly; I hope you are, too. We want to do what is most profitable for the Kingdom. Please join forces with us in prayer for God's perfect will to be laid out clearly.

Thursday night, January 13...this was the warmest weather day yet. Yesterday was overcast most of the day, and while we still considered it fairly warm (about 72 degrees, I think), the locals had on long pants, tennis shoes, and jackets. Some were actually shivering!
Have I mentioned the food yet? Well, let me put it this way: I can hear my spin bike calling my name! Everything has been Delicious.
Today's highlight was going to a "kitchen" that the church runs. It is in an extremely poor district of San Jose, and I'm talking POOR. They prepare a meal (dinner) three times a week for neighborhood children, usually around 30-50 kids and about 10 adults. We arrived about an hour early to help prepare the food, which included a trip to the grocery store. Guess the number of people who showed up? Well...Sheila counted at least 125, not including the staff of about eight that were helping! We were worried about having enough food, but it stretched even to include seconds, and there were leftovers. Ray and I handed out candy (per Pastor Luis' request) to all of the kids. Ray and I each had a bag, the kids lined up, and kind, generous Ray kept running out so Eliana kept having to replenish him! And again, there was enough...thank heaven.
A small local church next to the outdoor eating area began its mid-week service just as we were finishing the cleaning-up part, so the four of us quietly went in to enjoy the worship lead by a young man playing a keyboard. Yesterday I began to pray for God to "stretch me, ruin me, heal me," and as I stepped into the humble little building for that evening service, the "ruining" began. As I watched some of the poorest people on earth raising their hands and praising God on a Thursday night in a full church, I wondered how I measured up to their faith.

Wednesday night, January 12...had a restful day, one of the most restful days I've had in a long time. Read and napped by a pool overlooking the ocean (saw a couple of whales!), finished a book that inspired me, encouraged me, and challenged me to add a new prayer to my life "stretch me, ruin me, heal me"...you can bet there'll be a message about that coming soon. :)
Now that I've finished a book that has so thoroughly challenged me, I'm taking it easy for a few days with a fictional adventure book. Suspense. Action. Thriller.
Went to Home Depot yesterday and Costco today. Home Depot was fairly different than the ones back home--more interested in selling T.V.'s than good lumber, but at least lumber is for sale here! That was a relief, thinking about what we might be doing for a missions project. Costco was a lot the same, even the prices, but no books at all. That was weird.
Sherrill brought some peanut brittle that her daughter Courtney made, and guess what? I chipped a tooth! Know any good dentists?
Keep us in prayer on Thursday as we visit the kitchen where the local church feeds children, and we'll meet with other pastors and church members as we try to discern what their most urgent needs are and what would benefit the Kingdom the most. Wisdom, Lord.
We boys got revenge in cards tonight.

Tuesday night, January 11...got up early this morning and met with Pastor Luis and Eliana at a private (Christian) school where Eliana works. About 200 kids attend, down from the 400 they had last year--the economy in Mexico isn't as hot as the weather apparently. The school property is where they have their Sunday morning service, too, so we took a trunkload of pictures and video. Sheila had a chance to talk to a fifth grade class about Jesus because a little 11-year-old girl/student died yesterday of a brain tumor. The kids were all sad today and the director asked if we would please talk to this class. Scary stuff when it's thrown at you and have about three minutes to think of what to say. Ministry is ministry, though, no matter where you are or even how (un)prepared you are!
I've had the privilege of being in several foreign countries and traveled via the bus, taxi, or missionary vans as a passenger, but today I have the newfound freedom of being the driver in a foreign country! I was scared to death, but exhilerated at the same time! The near misses had Sheila cringing in the passenger seat like a frightened four-year-old, probably wishing she was in a child's carseat!
By the time we picked up Ray & Sherrill at the airport in the afternoon, I was a pro, and Ray greatly admired my driving skills. We had a wonderful dinner, then the girls soundly defeated the boys in a friendly game of cards. (We will get revenge.)
I am thankful for so many things...tonight, I'll say I'm thankful for speed bumps that aren't the size of bowling balls, traffic laws that are actually obeyed, and lines in the road you can actually see--all in the USA.

I'm no longer doing to blog my "DJ" entries, but am instead going to comment about random things happening in my life. I think it will be more fun for both of us, especially the next week or so as I invite you to follow along on our journey in Mexico.
Monday, January 10...it's been a long day, but thankful there were no "hitches" on our path to Cabo San Jose, Mexico, so Sheila and I have arrived safely and shed our jackets and socks like a snake shedding its skin! We had dinner with Pastor Luis and his wife Eliana. They are awesome people--humble, passionate, and faithful to serve God. I'll post pictures sometime this week. Now, on to the important stuff: when we got here at 1:05pm(PST), we were half-starved...you know, I used to complain about airplane food, but wow, you don't even get peanuts anymore! Anyway, by the time we rented our car, we had been up since 3:30am and hadn't had a meal yet...so on the way to our hotel, we were on the look-out for something quick. Guess what we ended up eating? A quarter pounder, no queso, por favor! Comfort food extraordinaire.
Luis & Eliana came to our room after dinner and we gave them the keyboard. They were speechless. Thanks, everyone, for making this happen. God BLESS you. Tomorrow we go see their church and school...8am. No rest for the wicked and the righteous? Well, apparently they don't need any.

Observation
Jesus Christ is the only living creature, who ever lived, that is worthy. Worthy of everything; honor, worship, praise, power wealth, glory. HE IS WORTHY!!!

Application
Reminding myself of who Jesus is releases freedom into my life. The Bible tells me, as a christian, the same spirit that is in Christ is also in me. I can be an over comer, nothing is impossible. If I use words like; never, can't, won't happen, I am putting limitations on what He can do.

Prayer
Lord, help me always see you in your glory. Remind me of what your power can do in my life. With your grace, I will never doubt you. Amen

Observation
Our wisdom, strength and wealth are not important in the grand scheme of things. Only that we have the type of relationship with God that is intimate, one that allows us to know His character.

Application
I tend to chase after things that would increase my knowledge, strength or wealth. The only piece that really matters is how well I know God, and that I ask Him to know me.

Prayer
Father, I ask that the things that I chase after, that have no consequence to your kingdom, diminish in my agenda. Keep my eyes on what really matters to you. Amen

Scripture
Isaiah 53:5 But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought our peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed.

Observation
Isaiah, prophesying hundreds of years before even the birth of Christ, speaks in past tense of His crucifixion. This was God's plan for the world's salvation from the beginning. Not "plan B" after Adam and Eve messed up. Jesus knew what His purpose was, and He went toward it with unshakable determination, for our salvation and healing.

Application
God loves us so much. He foretold His son's death, and in doing so, told of the greatest victory the world has ever witnessed. I have victory over death, sickness and hell, because of this victory. The knowledge that He suffered for my sin aids me in my fight against temptation.

Prayer
Father, let me always remember what my sin has cost, the suffering and death of Jesus. May I never take it for granted. Amen

James 4:3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

Observation
What are our motives for asking God for more? We may be blaming God for not giving, when really we may be blessed, if in fact our motives were more about His kingdom and not ours.

Application
I need to keep the "Kingdom of God" values at the forefront of my thoughts while asking God for help. God is looking to bless us as we bless others. The more I think of others the less I think about my WANTS.

Prayer
Lord, keep my motives pure. Let me know when they or not in your will. Show me your kingdom more each day. May I let the needs of others come before my own desires. Amen

Scripture
Hebrews 11:16 Instead, they were longing for a better country---a heavenly one. Therefore god is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.

Observation
The patriarchs believed in what God promised, even though they would never see it. That is faith in the character of God, not the deeds of God. This type of faith was the reason for the pride that God had for those people.

Application
Am I faithful because of what God can do for me, or am I faithful because of who He is? His character is worthy of all my worship. His blessings to me are just a byproduct of being His child.

Prayer
May I always love you Lord for who you are, not for what you can do. I will worship you in the good times, and the bad. If I have much or nothing, you are still "Lord" of my life.

Scripture
Hebrews 6:18 God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged.

Observation
God can not lie!!! That makes every promise in the Bible even more profound. They are not empty chattering or crystal goals that shatter when the first test comes along. They are full, rich and pure. They are promises to live by, and be encouraged by.

Application
All of the warnings, stories and promises become more alive to me, knowing that God can not lie. Everyone else may stray from the truth, not God.

Prayer
Thank you, Father, for being you. Help me accept all of your words as truth to my soul. Let me be a person that tells the truth always. Amen

Scripture
Titus 2:14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify to Himself a people that are His very own, eager to do what is good.

Observation
Jesus, gave Himself to take us out of wickedness, to make us pure, and to have us WANT to do good. Jesus; entitled to all glory, gave up everything, so that, we who do not deserve to be entitled to anything, have all His glory at our disposal.

Application
He gave it all up for me! I live in a world where people are desperate to get MORE. Not really caring much about truth, justice, virtue, just MORE. I must not give in to this onslaught against God's value system. His example of being willing to give up everything for the Kingdom, that is what I must emulate.

Prayer
Thank you, Jesus for redeeming me, purifying me, and making me eager for good. I am eager for your presence to be stronger in my life every day. Amen

Scripture
2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

Observation
Paul was nearing the end of his ministry and life. He was possibly reflecting on what had been accomplished through his ministry. I think he had a reasonable amount of pride in what God had done through him.

Application
I pray that in the years to come, I will be able to say that I have fought well, finished what He has set before me and continued in the faith. I don't want to fade away into a cushy retirement, but to contend until I see Jesus face to face.

Prayer
Father, Keep me strong physically, emotionally and especially, spiritually. Help me fight the good fight until I am with you. Amen

Scripture
2 Kings 7:9 Then they said to each other, "We're not doing right. This is a day of good news and we are keeping it to ourselves. If we wait until daylight, punishment will over-take us. Let's go at once and report this to the royal palace."

Observation
These men were living in a terrible time of despair. They had stumbled onto great deliverance, the temptation was there to keep it to themselves. Realizing the folly in that, they knew the only right thing to do was to share the "Good News."

Application
We live in a time of both uncertainty and despair, people searching for truth. When Jesus came into my life I knowing that I needed to share the message came easy, the fortitude to continue sharing may be harder. I can't take it for granted but continue to share it freely.

Prayer
God, let a new fire of your presence consume me, pushing me onto greater things in you, pushing me to share to those that do not have that relationship yet. Do not allow this part of my life to grow cold. Amen

1 Kings 20:11 The king of Israel answered, "Tell him: "One who puts on his armor should not boast like one who takes it off.'"

Observation
This really should be in the Proverbs. Don't boast about things you have not accomplished. If you haven't done the deed you can't talk trash.

Application
It is common place for people to boast about things they believe they can do before actually succeeding at doing them. This is a form of pride, which the Word tells us "comes before a fall". We may mask it as being confident but God would rather have me humble, waiting to see what HE will accomplish.

Prayer
Father, give me patience to wait upon you, not boast about what I or you will do, just wait and allow you to be glorified in your works. Amen

Scripture
Colossians 2:8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.

Observation
God is so much more than what we know and understand. We limit what God can do within our lives by measuring Him with human understanding.

Application
I am sometimes blinded by human measurements and philosophy making it difficult to look at situations with supernatural eyesight. Each time God moves upon my behalf it is beyond my comprehension. I should expect that type of power rather than be surprised by it.

Prayer
God, please open my eyes like you did for Elisha's servant. Allow me to see your wonders at work around me. Let me not be blinded by what society tells me, but let me see what you have promised us. Amen

2 Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.

Observation
God is looking to bless those that are committed to Him. Actually searching, not just waiting to hear from, but searching to bless.

Application
I love the verse. It really speaks to the outrageous love that God has for us. All we need to do is commit, He will take care of everything else. He is eager to bless.

Prayer
Again Father, I pray a pray of commitment to you. Take all that I have and do as you will. I have experienced the love that you have for us and know that I am secure in your hands.

Scripture
Ephesians 6:11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the Devil's schemes.

Observation
We have a responsibility to prepare for what may/will come our way. It is not just up to God, to come like the cavalry, at the last second to save us.

Application
Salvation is absolutely FREE. God then gives us instruction as to how to live out this salvation. I must put on my armor to defend against evil. Truth, righteousness, readiness, faith, Holy Spirit and salvation are all from God, we must be willing to wear them.

Prayer
Father, help me respond to your grace and do the part you ask of me. Give me the truth, righteousness, faith that I need to ward off the attacks of the enemy. Amen

Ecclesiastes 7:10 Do not say, "Why were the old days better than these?" For it is not wise to ask these questions.

Observation
Solomon is telling us not to be so nostalgic about the past that we make it more than it was.

Application
Looking back on my life; I have had many great encounters with God. My experience each time was wonderful in its own way, something that I would enjoy again, but I know that God has new manifestations of His power in my life available to me. My responsibility is to continually look forward to those times.

Prayer
I pray that I continue to have encounters with God. Father, help me to always look forward to what you have coming to me. Amen

Observation
Many verses in Proverbs direct us to discipline our children. Solomon goes so far as to instruct us to spank them because we love them. Verse 17 even promises a reward of peace and joy if we do so.

Application
Our society tells us to; reason with, give time-outs to, or even ignore bad behavior in our children. Instead we should love them enough to discipline them. Even though God loves me enough to give His son for me; when He disciplines me it hurts. Discipline teaches obedience. A disciplined child grows up to be a disciplined adult.

Prayer
God, I ask that you guide me in aiding my children in raising my grand-children. Please bless their little lives and help them grow into great men and women of God. Amen

Observation
I don't see this as telling us not to work hard but to be content with less. We don't need to "keep up with the Joneses".

Application
We are bombarded in our society to have more, bigger and better stuff. It is only wrong to have stuff if the having is our priority. God and family need to be first. If we lack the self-control needed, we can find ourselves work continual overtime or two jobs that keep us from both God and family.

Prayer
Father, help me be content with what you have given me. let me work hard but only to the benefit of you and the family you have blessed me with. Amen

Observation
I wonder if Solomon wrote this before or after he was graying? I've always disliked my gray hair but I do like this spin on it.

I am going to claim this scripture. In stead of the church or my children causing my gray hair, it will be righteous living.

Observation
The book of Proverbs is filled with profound passages, we can glean so much from these pages. Here, God is telling us that if we heed His word long life and prosperity will follow.

Application
Living a long and prosperous life is every one's desire. Not only will we enjoy it if we do it in a Godly fashion, it will also bless those around us. As I desire to have His will done here on earth as it is in heaven, He will give me the time and resources to see that accomplished.

Prayer
Father, grant me the years and resources to do your will here on earth. Let my work be fruitful in your eyes that I might continue until your return. Amen

2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land.

Observation
This is God's answer to Solomon's prayer. The people had come together in unity, obedience and sacrifice. This is a powerful statement of what is required to witness the power of God in our lives.

Application
Four things I need to do to hear from God; humble myself, pray, seek His character and turn away from evil. God really spells it out here. How many times do we ask, "What should I do?" or "How can I know God's will?" This is the answer.

Prayer
Father, help me to turn from evil, to know you better, to pray and be humble. As I accomplish those things with your help I will see your salvation and healing in my life. Amen

Observation
God has made himself known to all people in some way. He continues to prove himself to all those that seek him even to this day and age.

Application
I am truly amazed at how God shows His power to people over and over again. We get distracted, turn away or even run from Him at times only to find that God does something to turn our focus back toward Him. He does everything possible to get us into a relationship with Him.

Prayer
Thank you God for showing me your power and mercy continually. I pray that I will always recognize what you are doing in my life. Amen

2 Samuel 24:24 But the king replied to Araunah, "No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.

Observation
David need to worship God with sacrifice in order to save Jerusalem. Araunah wanted to be of help, he offered the land, oxen and even the wooden cart for burning the sacrifice. That would have been Araunah's sacrifice not David's.

Application
In order for it to be a sacrifice it must be of value to us. What do I value? Money and time are the first things that come to mind, but as I dig deeper, pride and independence spring up also. Romans 12:2 tells me that my body is to be a living sacrifice to God. That includes my pride, independence and even my will.

Prayer
God, help me put aside the things that I value and take up the things that you value. I know that what you value will last throughout eternity. Amen

Psalm 56:11 ...in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

Observation
In chapter 55, the psalmist was agonizing over a close friend betraying him. Now in chapter 56 he realizes that it is all about God and not man. He knows that only God can do anything against him that really matters.

Application
As I look at my life, the times that I have been truly hurt, was at the hands of a confidant. Correspondingly, I have hurt those closest to me. This lets me know that only God will be truly faithful to us. I can not put my trust in man no matter how close they are but I must continue to love and show myself friendly just as Jesus did.

Prayer
Forgive me Father for the times I have sinned against you and hurt my fellow brothers and sisters. Grant me the grace to forgive those that have hurt me. To not carry an offense. I do trust in you Lord. Amen

2 Samuel 14:14 ...But God does not take away life; instead, He devises ways so that a banished person may not remain estranged from Him.

Observation
David's son, Absalom, had taken vengeance out on his brother Ammon. He then went to one of the cities of refuge to save his own life and could not return home. David is reminded here of God's unlimited love for His children. That He will go further than any of us would expect of Him.

Application
Such a beautiful picture of God's grace. He "devises ways" for us to return to Him. He doesn't have rules set in stone that we have to do for restoration. Only to repent. He will create new ways to woo us to Him. This is true forgiveness, to go out of your way to restore a broken relationship.

Prayer
Thank you God for restoring us as we repent after failing you. Your unending love has no bounds. We are continually blessed by your grace toward us. Help me forgive as you have forgiven. Amen

Observation
They could see that a hard battle was coming their way. They made their strategies to win but knew that they may need to depend on help from each other to secure a victory.

Application
How often do I fight the battles that come my way without even letting my fellow warriors know that I am in a fight? I thank God that He has placed me in a group of believers that will fight for each other. I just need to let them know when the battle is on.

Prayer
Thank you God for the brothers and sisters at Father's House. People who will stand in battle beside each other. Thank you for your church, the Bride of Christ. Let me be ready to fight the good fight for my fellow citizens of your Kingdom. Amen

Observation
God is admonishing the people in charge here on earth to put Him first. To act morally, honestly and with integrity. That they should do this knowing that ultimately He is in charge.

Application
I need to continually pray for the salvation of our leaders. Not to just complain about the state of things but to do what we can to change things. Most of the time that comes just through prayer.

Prayer
God, I pray for the leaders of our nation, state and city. That they would turn to you for direction. That we as a country would humble ourselves and turn toward you for our salvation. Help me do what I can to show your love in my community. Amen

1 Chron. 13:14 The Ark of God remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house for three months, and the Lord blessed his household and everything he had.

Observation
Because of David's impatience the Ark of God was placed in the house of Obed-Edom. The presence of the Lord blessed all he had by merely being there. After this Obed-Edom is mentioned several times as being one of the gate-keepers for the Ark.

Application
Obed-Edom did nothing but allow the presence of the Lord into his house and everything he had prospered. God wants to bless us. Sometimes I make it harder than it should be. I need to simply allow His presence into my life and home more.

Prayer
Father, help me keep it simple. I ask that your presence would be with me constantly. Not just for your blessings but that I might know that you are leading my thoughts and decisions. Amen

Matthew 16:23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of man."

Observation
Peter was not acting out of malice toward Jesus, he loved Him. He didn't understand what the death, burial and resurrection meant for the kingdom of God. What it meant for the entire human race. Soon he did know and did give his life for it.

Application
Many times my own understanding gets in the way of what God is doing. I need to be like Peter and accept the rebuke from the Lord and then spend the rest of my life doing what I learned from the experience.

Prayer
As you discipline me Father, let me accept it with humbleness. Allow me to learn from your ways and your direction for my life. Keep me in your hands always Amen

Matthew 14:23 After He had dismissed them, He went up ona mountainside by himself to pray.

Observation
This is the 2nd time in this chapter that Jesus went off alone to pray. Even the Son of God needed that alone time to spend with God. Because of spending this time He was able to feed 5,000 men plus women and children and to walk on the water.

Application
If Jesus needed to pray how much more do I. I want to see more of the miraculous in my life and ministry. Prayer is the key, spending time with God and knowing (obeying) His will.

Prayer

Observation
Jesus was trying to convey how well John the Baptist (the cousin of Jesus) had followed his calling. Jesus knew John's time was short. It must have been difficult for Him not to come to John's aide. Jesus also knew and followed His calling though. It is not the physical world that we fight against but the spiritual.

Application
As I sit on the balcony of our room looking out over the Sea of Cortez, I see a calm ocean glistening under the sunshine. A slight breeze makes it for a very peaceful setting. At the same time I am able to hear the thunderous roar of the waves crashing on the beach making me realize how powerful that sea is. As a Christian I have the peace of God controling me and the power of God fighting my battles. This is not a passive, meely-mouthed, weak faith that I have but one of power. We must be forceful to attain what He has for us. When you read this zip me an e-mail or touch base on facebook letting me know that someone is recieving these from Mexico.

Prayer

Father, thank you for the people that you have surrounded me with. People who are unafraid to speak life into me and are faithful to follow you beside me. People who listen to you and have a loyalty to your call. People who will edify and not tear down, who stand for righteousness. Amen

1 Samuel 22:2 All those who were in distress or in debt or discontented gathered around him, and he became their leader. About 400 men were with him.

Observation
All of the broken and lost people of that area went to be with David. They recognized someone who may lead them out of their problems. The story continues on to let us know that as they followed him God turned them into a valiant group of fighters.

Application
We can be is distress, in debt or discontent and not be on the corner begging for food or money. Every one of us has been in at least one of those places. Without Jesus Christ we will continue to dwell in that area. God is calling us to become a mighty group of valiant fighters. He will lead us to become what He has called us to.

Prayer
Thank you Father for taking may debt of sin upon yourself, for making me content in whatever place I find myself and for relieving my distress. I will follow you all of my life. Amen

Observation
Saul was impatient waiting for Samuel. He took the priestly duty of sacrifice upon himself. All of his descendants lost out because he would not wait for God's timing.

Application
I believe I am glad that I don't know all that I have missed out on because of my impatience. Waiting is tough in this "microwave society" that we live in but the rewards are worth it. Living in God's perfect timing brings a peace that we can experience in no other way.

Prayer
God, help me wait on your timing for all things in my life. Don't allow me to get ahead of you, walking out from under your protection, but to live in obedience to you. Amen

Observation
Upon realizing that they had not been doing what God's kids should be doing, albeit by Saul's threat of destroying their livelihood, they were moved to work together.

Application
A healthy fear of God is important to my spiritual journey through this life. Knowing God's standard and His character aids me in keeping my flesh in check. It also inspires me to work together with my fellow citizens in His kingdom.

Prayer

Observation
Saul had just experienced a supernatural presence of God. He had obeyed God, prophesied for the first time and was anointed by God. Now God says to do whatever is set before you and I will bless it.

Application
When we are obedient to God and rest in His presence He will bless all we do. Not just the churchie stuff but ALL we do. The meals we prepare will taste better, our lawns may be greener (Chris S) even our work environment could be more pleasant. Just by being close to Him, He affects all we do.

Prayer
God, let me stay in your presence and you take care of ALL that is set before me. Thank you for the many blessings that you hand out freely. Amen

Observation
Samson had killed this lion with his bare hands and told no one. When he returned to the site of that battle there was treasure to be had that not only blessed him but others near him.

Application
The battles that I have fought and won in my past are now blessings for me and others close too me. Battles may be hard and even unfair at times, but God will use those victories for future blessings to those in His kingdom.

Prayer
Thank you Father for the battles fought and won, past, present and future. As you lead me through these times I trust your judgement for my life. Amen

Observation
God saw Gideon as he could/would be, not as who he was at the time. Not only seeing him as a mighty warrior but assuring him that the Lord would be with him to achieve that place.

Application
It is good to know that God sees what we can be and is wanting to aid us in getting there. I have a destiny that is only attainable through God's help. It is bigger than I can imagine. How amazing is that!

Prayer
Thank you God for seeing what I can be and not dwelling on what I was or am. Holy Spirit help me to allow you to work through me to get where the Father wants me to be. Amen

Observation
David is saying that as he keeps his integrity that God will not only uphold him but keep him close also. A lack of integrity would presume that the opposite would happen.

Application
Being honest and truthful means being close to God's character. Many times as God was handing down the law He said to use just scales. As I am honest in the little things He will lift me up.

Prayer

After that whole generation had been gathered to there fathers, another generation grew up, who knew neither the Lord nor what He had done for Israel.

Observation
The group of people who had witnessed the power of God so greatly failed to teach their children about it. They did not pass down a legacy of God's power. God needed to teach them Himself by causing them to also be in need of Him.

Application
It is so important for me to continue to teach my children and grand children about the wonders of God. Make sure that they have the opportunity to experience God's power for themselves. Even by allowing them to go through their own hard times. This is how we all learn to trust in God.

Prayer
God, I ask that you keep my descendants as your disciples. Help me to teach them your ways and allow you to show your power to them. Let them grow to be mighty men and women of valor. Amen

This is Joshua's declaration about him and his family. Joshua lived up to this statement throughout his life. By making this statement "it" was out there for all to hold him accountable to it.

As a man/father/husband I have the responsibility to serve God not only for myself but also my family. I need to make these type of bold statements to put the challenge out there for myself. I must lead for the sake of my family. God will stay true to His promises as I do this.

If I am patient and continue to pray He will hear and listen. It doesn't say that He will concede to what I want but that He will listen.

I really don't need God to do what I want, but only to listen and do what is best. To hear my heart about an issue. To understand how I feel and then to minister according to His will. Whether I like it or not to know that He will do what is best for the KINGDOM.

Observation
God tells us to tithe on all of our increase. We can never out give God. He blessed the Israelites abundantly when they were faithful in their tithe.

Application
I need to remember that every increase, not just my salary, is from God above. To honor God and obey His word is my part. Blessing me is His part. If I uphold my end I have no fear the He will uphold His end.

Prayer

God spells it out exactly how we can please Him. Fear Him, walk in His ways, love Him and to serve Him with all of our heart and soul.

Application
I continually ask God how I can please Him. This verse lays it out very simply. If I make all of my decisions with these parameters in mind everything will fall into place because He will be in control.

Prayer
May I always love and fear you Lord, know and walk in your ways. May I always be a servant of yours to the people around me that you are ministering to. Amen

Observation
We may hide sin from everyone around us but never from God. There is always a cost to sin. (Romans 6:23)

Application
God is not looking to discipline us but to reward us for righteousness. If I walk into sin voluntarily He will discipline me because He loves me and wants to see me succeed as a follower of Christ.

Prayer
God forgive me of any sin in my life. I do want to live a life pleasing to you. Holy Spirit help to stay away from sin and run toward righteousness. Amen

Observation
If you follow Christ your life becomes His. When we concede our life to God we will actually be saving it for eternity.

Application
This is not a very good witnessing tool but yet so true. As I try to have control of my life the worse things turn out but as I give control to God He has my true best interest in mind. Even if it isn't the bed of roses that I think it should be it is comforting to know that it is God's problem not mine.

Prayer
Thank you God for taking care of me and my family. Help me turn control over to you even more. Let me rest in your promises and know that you are looking toward eternity for me. Amen

God is our strength and our protection. As we put our trust in Him we will always be in His care. The eventual outcome will be praise.

Application
I praise God that I no longer depend upon the natural and the logical for my strength and protection but the supernatural and godly direction. Careers, hobbies and especially people will disappoint us at times but God will never fail us.

Prayer
Thank you for always being there God. I will continue to shout your praises to the world. You are the King of kings, the Lord Almighty, your kingdom will last for eternity. Amen

Observation
God wants our best, not the leftovers or the part that does not interest us but the best. This isn't just referring to our resources but of every part of our life.

God proved Himself early in my life concerning giving and the blessing that is in store for me by being obedient with my resources. I am continuing to learn of other areas in my life that I need to concede my best to God.

Observation
The Israelites had a visible sign of what God's will was for them. Whenever the cloud moved they moved, whenever the cloud stopped they stopped.

Application
At times I wish that God would show His will to me by a physical sign such as this. It would cost me less time in talking to Him and actually seeking what He would have for me. That is probably the reason why He doesn't work that way with me. He wants that personal relationship with me and that can only come from spending time together.

Prayer
Thank you Father for wanting that relationship with me. I pray that I never take it for granted. That I walk in the fear of the Lord, understanding how much you love me. Amen

Observation
This chapter is a prophecy about the crucifixion of Jesus that came true even to the extent of His clothes being gambled for. The chapter ends by telling us that there will always be a group of people carrying on the work of Christ to the next generation.

Application
I so want my descendants to enjoy the blessings of God that I do and more. Instead of declining in spiritual aptitude from one generation to the next wouldn't it be wonderful if our kids and grand-kids were even closer to God than us? You knew that I had to talk about "Leaving a Legacy" somewhere in here.

Prayer
God help me live a life that would cause my descendants to hunger after you even more. Let my example be that of a godly person seeking more of you. Amen

Lev. 26:3, 9 If you walk in my statutes and keep my commandments, and preform them, (9) For I will look on you favorably and make you fruitful, multiply you and confirm my covenant with you.

Observation
This is a conditional promise. No one could keep the entire law so God gave the sacrifices to cover their sins. This shows the heart of God, that He wants to bless us and will give us every opportunity to receive those blessings. All He asks is for obedience.

Application
The blessings listed in verse 9 are so beyond our understanding; to have the favor of God Almighty, to be successful and growing, and for God always confirming His relationship to me. What more could I ask for? Just when I wonder if I'm doing the right thing He shows me once again His power.

Prayer
Thank you God for always proving yourself to me. May I never take it for granted.

Observation
Paul found a people willing to study the Scripture to find the truth. My sense is that Paul loved being in their company. Kindred spirits enjoy being together.

Application
Real truth only comes from God. It seems that we are always ready to hear from any other source rather than God who has not only the right answers but the best answers. Not only does He know the facts but also the spirit of each issue.

Prayer
I pray that I continually seek your wisdom God. Don't allow me to trust my own understanding or that of man. I will try to seek your wisdom from your Word. Amen

Exodus 40:34 Then the cloud covered the tabernacle of meeting, and the Glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.

Observation
When they obeyed God completely He showed up. Not in a small way, He filled the place.

Application
As I do what God has instructed me to do He meets me there. It is never in a small way. It is always amazing to watch Him. We obey and He does the work. Come on Sunday and find out more about "obedience".

Prayer
Take away any pride I have God. Help me be obedient to your will. As I obey I know that the Holy Spirit will do the work for me. Amen

Scripture
Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.

Observation
The psalmist is praying that both his thoughts and deeds be aligned with God. He also knows that without God being his strength and savior it is impossible.

Application
I can watch what I say and guide my thoughts toward the positive but if it is through my own strength (white knuckling it) it is for naught. As I rely on God to work within me, to change the way I think and act, it will be to His glory and my redemption.

Prayer
Help me keep my thoughts and actions aligned with your nature God. Holy Spirit continue the work that you have started in my life. May I always be obedient to your will for me. Amen

Scripture
Exodus 32:1 Now when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, "Come make us gods that shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him."

Observation
Less than 6 weeks from the time that they had all agreed to obey the laws that God had spoken to them through Moses they went against the very first one. Not what some may call a lesser law pertaining to your neighbor's ox but the first one God had spoke. "Put no other gods before me" (Exodus 20:2)

Application
How long does it take me to forget His promises or principles? What if Aaron had stood for what was right? The strength of a good leader can make a great difference. I need to make a stand for what is right no matter what the majority may think. Right plus God is the only majority I need.

Prayer
My prayer God is to always be the leader you have called me to. To have integrity and stand for your principles no matter what it may bring. Surround me with people who can aid me with your Holy Spirit. Amen

Exodus 14:13 And Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid, Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians you see today, you shall see again no more forever."

Observation
They had their backs against the wall, no where else to go. God says just stand and watch me work. He came through for them in a way that is still talked about today.

Application
I am always looking for a logical way of dealing with problems. I believe that there are times that God allows them to become so insurmountable that we can not find a way out. We must then rely totally on Him. It is refreshing to stand back and let Him deal with the issues of life instead of us carrying the burden.

Prayer
Thank you God for always coming through, even at the last moment. You are faithful to your children. Amen

Exodus 12:36 And the Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they granted them what they requested. thus they plundered the Egyptians.

Observation
Not only did God set them free He sent them off with tremendous provision. Provision that they would need in the future.

Application
If I continue to do what is right in God's eyes He will always supply. It may come from some unlikely sources. That is how He shows me that it is all up to Him. It is not in my own understanding or abilities.

Prayer
Continue to bless me Father as I grow closer to you. I understand that it is all in your power. Let Father's House be a community of people that trust you even when we don't see it in our eyes. Amen

Exodus 4:13 But he said, "Oh my Lord, please send by the hand of whomever else You may send.

Observation

Four times Moses argued with God that he should not be used. God finally got upset and gave him help in the form of Aaron. Did God need Aaron in order to do what He wanted? Was this the permissive will of God instead of His perfect will?

Application

I need to remember that arguing with the "Almighty God" is slightly useless. The sooner I concede to His will the sooner that I see His hand at work for my good or the good of those around me. How many times have I not allowed the power of God to fully work because I argued?

Prayer

Father, help me agree at once to whatever you ask of me. Build my trust of you in my life. Let me be one to bring your favor on Central Oregon. Amen

Scripture

Genesis 45:4-5 And Joseph said to his brothers, "Please come near to me." So they came near. Then he said: I am Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt. "But now, do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life."

Observation

Such a story of God's providence, of refusing to take an offense, of reconciliation. What Satan meant for harm God used for His story. Joseph had every right to do with them whatever he wanted but chose to forgive them.

Application

What an example is Joseph to me. Whether my offense is real or in my head I am supposed to forgive. Out of that forgiveness God can move mightily for His plan. By sacrificing my pride His kingdom can be advanced. I have the power to advance His kingdom by making the right decision.

Prayer

God please use me for your plans. Keep me from pride that would cause you to find someone else to do the work that is reserved for me to accomplish. Remind me that it is only through your power that any thing can be done. Amen

Psalm 5:12 For you O Lord will bless the righteous; With favor you will surround him as with a shield.

Observation
God blesses the righteous by giving them His favor. As we live in obedience to Him we enjoy His protection.

Application
My natural tendency is to seek the approval of people. What is the favor of people when compared to the favor of God, the "Creator of the Universe?" He really can protect us. There is a real value to His favor. It isn't always that He punishes us for sin. When we are unrighteous or disobedient we walk out from under His protection.

Prayer
Father, I want to be obedient to your will in my life. I want to see your favor on me and mine. Aid me in my faith. I thank you for all that I am and have. Amen

Genesis 32:28 And He said, "Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men , and have prevailed."

Observation
Jacob had a tenacious spirit. He would not allow the angel to leave without giving him a blessing. That blessing changed his life from being a deceiver "Jacob" to Israel.

Application
How many times have I stopped seeking God just short of a blessing that would change my life? I thank God for the times I have not grown weary and was able to press into the blessing He had for me. I can no longer settled for the "good feeling" of a blessing but must go on to the life changing experience.

Prayer
Father, I know you are involved with every corner of my life. Let the circumstances that I go through draw me closer to you and the blessings you have for me. Amen

Genesis 30:22 Then God remembered Rachel and God listened to her and opened her womb.

Observation
God will always remember us. He saw the hurt in Rachel's life and blessed her out of His love. He had a plan, not just for her, but for generations to come. Joseph's life, calling, purpose and his legacy were in the plan of God.

Application
Notice how I slipped in "legacy"? As I continue to live in faith and focus on what God has for me now His plan will not only bless me in the present but may bless the generations to come. I am blessed because of how my parents and grand-parents were obedient in their faith.

Prayer
I pray Father that you would help me be a strong link in a wonderful chain of faith. Let the heritage that was started long before I was born continue to well past my grand-children. Thank you for always being faithful.

Observation
By being obedient to God Abraham was blessed beyond his imagination. His legacy continues on today because of his trust in God with everything he had.

Application
As I believe and trust God, obey His commandments, His blessing will be upon me and those who follow me. I can leave a legacy of faith in God to my descendants. I need to understand the importance of blessing the next generation.

Prayer
Help me to be the man that my descendants can look back upon as a Godly man. Amen

Genesis 15:6 Abraham believed the Lord, and He credited to him as righteousness.

Observation
Before the Law told anyone how to be holy. Before Christ came and was sacrificed for our sin. Abraham achieved righteousness simply by totally believing God.

Application
If God made this possible for Abraham how much more is it available to us? We have the testimony of Jesus and all of the saints that came before us. To believe (obey, trust, honor) is all He wants of me.

Prayer
Your word tells us to ask for faith if we need. I need more faith God. I need to obey, trust and honor you in all of my ways. It is only lack of faith that hinders me. Increase my faith Lord. Amen

Genesis 4:26 And as for Seth, to him also a son was born, and he named him Enosh. Then men began to call on the name of the Lord.

Observation
This is when people began praying instead of conversing. While they were in the garden they were friends of God and spoke to Him as such. Now they were calling out to Him or "proclaiming " His name. The relationship changed. The good thing is that they still knew who He was and respected Him.

Application
By me proclaiming the name of the Lord I am renewing my relationship with Him. It reminds me who He is. Now I am praying to Him and praising Him but someday I will be conversing face to face as Adam and Eve once did. Maybe in 2010 the rapture will take us to that place.

Prayer
Thank you for being my friend God. Although we do not have the same relationship that was enjoyed by Adam and Eve you still love me and care for me. Come soon Lord. I do hunger for the time to see you face to face. Amen

Observation
We have the privilege of serving the winner, the last one standing, the over comer. As His followers we are called faithful and chosen by Him.

Application
I love to win. I believe all of us (believers) need a little competitive edge to us. It drives me to make the decisions that would put me on the winning side. Choices to follow Jesus rather than my own understanding or man's ideas. By making these choices I will be called "faithful".

Prayer
Thank you Father for choosing me/us. Help us/me live up to the name "faithful" by allowing your grace to permeate every aspect of our lives. Help us to spread the Good News to as many people as possible before these scriptures come to pass. Amen

John 21:25 And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen.

Observation
The Bible can not contain all that Jesus did. Every minute that He was on Earth had a purpose that was fulfilled. He had no wasted time.

Application
Jesus is still adding to His story today. Each life He changes enlarges the scope of the Good News. Every time we allow Him to work through us the message grows. What could I do if I didn't waste time?

Prayer
God help me to take advantage of the time you have given me. Let me realize the value of each minute and allow you to guide me through them. I want to redeem the time to reach as many people as possible. Amen.

John 4:42 Then they said to the woman, "Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that He is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world."

Observation
People were drawn to Jesus through the testimony of this woman but only after receiving their own personal revelation did they truly become believers.

Application
Our purpose is to spread the gospel with conviction and passion. It is only through the Holy
Spirit giving us (and us accepting) a revelation of who Jesus is, that we receive salvation. Each step of this journey with Jesus is dependent upon Him revealing more of Himself to us. Am I looking to know Him better?

Prayer
I ask you Lord to continue revealing yourself to me. I will stay broken and humbled before you. Let me spread the word about you with conviction and passion. Amen

Observation
All else may/will fail but God's word will always remain. The principles, promises and the proclamations are what I can depend upon throughout all of eternity.

Application
When everything around me is shaken I can go to the Word and find the strength I need to carry on. I can find identity, vision, and purpose. It is all there.

Prayer
Thank you God for giving us the Word. For being the Lord of Lords, King of Kings, the great Shepherd. A rock in times of trouble the reason for rejoicing in times of plenty. I love you just for who you are. Amen

Observation
In order for mercy to be given to us we must give it to others.

Application
Through age and experience I have realized the importance of mercy. I know that sometime I will need to receive it so I am more willing to give it. Judgement is easy, mercy takes work.

Prayer
Father I thank you for the mercy you have shown me. Bless me with the courage and strength to pass it on to others. Amen

Hebrews 12:12-13 Therefore strengthen the hands that hang down, and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather healed.

Observation
Verse 12 tells me that I need to "suck it up". We are responsible for ourselves. We need to take responsibility for the weak areas in our lives. Verse 13 tells me though that we are also responsible to help those who are weak so that they do not become disenfranchised. Both are true of course. We have a responsibility for ourselves and in aiding those around us.

Application
I have had the opportunity to witness fallen brothers, discouraged believers and repentant Christians be surrounded by the family of God in love to restore, encourage and forgive. Nothing speaks louder of the love of God than that one event alone. I want to thank the people of Father's House for being that type of church.

Prayer
Thank you Father for placing me in a group of believers that have a first reaction of forgiveness rather then judgement. Keep me/us in that frame of spirit as we are on this journey together. Continue to build us up as the body of Christ. Amen

1 Timothy 4:8 For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.

Observation
It is good to exercise the physical body (I am starting today) but it is worth so much more, both now and for eternity, to keep the spiritual body in shape.

Application
I have found that if my physical body is in better shape it is easier to keep my spirit in shape also. I can't only focus on the physical or pride and vanity can creep in. The more energy I have the sharper my mind stays. I can meditate and pray with more effectiveness.

Father help me stay on a course of keeping myself healthy. Not just for my sake but for my family and friends also. I know this will allow me to be effective in my Christian walk and testimony. Never let me be so focused on my physical body that I stray into pride and vanity.

Colossians 1:28-29 Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.

Observation
Paul's mission was to preach the Gospel to everyone, bringing as many people to Christ as possible. God used him greatly because of his dedication to the call which God placed on him. It was his passion.

Application
God has placed a similar calling on my life, to preach and teach the Gospel and bring as many people to Christ as possible. (By no stretch of the imagination am I comparing myself to Paul in any way other than the calling.) I do need the type of dedication the Paul exemplifies. The more I act on what God has given me to do the more I will see His power working in my calling.

Prayer
Thank you Father for the calling you have placed on my life. Let me live out that calling with the passion and dedication I see in Paul's life. As I please you in my faithfulness I ask that you anoint the work I do for you. Amen

Romans 14:21 It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak.

Observation
We need to look out for those around us. Behaviors do not have to be sinful to be offensive. Knowingly causing someone to stumble is sin.

Application
Being aware of my actions and how they may effect the people around me is important. Just because I am not convicted of a behavior does not give me license to act out said behavior if it is offensive to others. I am to be an encouragement to others not a deterrent.

Prayer
Father, help me to be aware of the people around me. To be sensitive to the Holy Spirit's conviction and to the feelings of those around me. Help me edify my brothers.

Romans 10:13 For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Observation
This is our promise of salvation. The key word is "Whoever" all are welcome. Everyone has the same opportunity to serve Christ.

Application
The simplicity of the gospel astounds me. Eternal life in heaven is dependent upon us asking for it!!! I sometimes question if it is too simple, too easy, maybe if there were some tasks to preform or hoops to jump through more people would find their way to God. Then I am reminded that second guessing the creator of the universe isn't real bright. I must get the word out about His love.

Prayer
Thank you God for making it as easy as possible for us to accept your Son as our savior. Thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life with you. Give me the strength to live in your grace for the rest of my life.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

Observation
As we love God and stay in His will "things" will work out. It does not tell us "everything will be perfect" but that it will work out.

Application
As the world around me is in such uncertainty about the future it brings peace to my soul that everything will work out for me as I love God. Without Him there is no hope, with Him hope springs eternal.

Prayer
Thank you Father for keeping my best interest in mind. Thank you for making me part of your Kingdom.

Matthew 18:3 "Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven."

Observation
Children are important to God and an example to us. We must have the humbleness of children to come into the kingdom of heaven.

Application
After the events of this last weekend this scripture carries much more weight in my life. It broke my heart to see the life drain out of an innocent young child, but was so comforted by the fact that he was immediately with Christ. In the arms of our Savior. Let me never take these young ones for granted and realize how important they are to God.

Prayer
I ask that you protect each and every child that is represented at Father's House. Not only physically but also spiritually and emotionally. Help us keep a watch over them in every way. To teach them as you would have us to. Thank you Father for the blessing they are.

Matthew 16:17 Jesus answered and said to him, Blessed are you Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.

Observation
Understanding who Jesus was did not come from Peter's own understanding or anyone else. The Spirit of God revealed it to him. It came from having a relationship with God.

Application
How much of my understanding comes from secular wisdom? How much do I take at face value from other people? How much of it is from only God? I need to seek God for new revelations in my life. I can not depend on just my own understanding or the knowledge that I can gain from other men, even Godly men. Without new revelations I will throw off restraint, at least that is what the scripture tells me.

Prayer
Father, help me to continue to seek your face, to gain understanding from you, to allow your wisdom to permeate my mind. Help me not be satisfied with what I've always known but to learn more from you at all times. Thank you for being there with your promises when we ask.

Matt. 4:22 and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.

Observation
There was no hesitation when these men heard Jesus direction. They left their comfort zone and the people closest to them and entered into the unknown.

Application
Am I consciencely listening to Christ for direction? When I do hear from Him do I act without pause? How precious is the reward that these disciples had/have for being so obedient. To be there and watch Jesus work miracles in the lives of so many people. To be used so powerfully to start something of eternal significance. Just because they heeded the call of Christ.

Prayer
Father, I want to hear and obey with the same attitude that James and John had. Continue to build my faith and perseverance for your kingdom. Allow me to be a person that has eternal significance.

Job 42:12 Now the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginnings;

Observation
God blessed him above all that he had before. Job suffered pain and humiliation but because he did not sin against God both he and his friends were rewarded in the end.

Application
This is the verse I've been waiting for. To know that God is just and righteous. He will always care for us. Our eternal souls are the most important item to God. How we live this life prepares us for our eternal home.

Prayer
May I never doubt you God. Strengthen my faith in you as I read your Word and see your works. Let me be like Job that although he went through the fire he did not sin against you. Amen

I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go into the house of the Lord."

Observation
There should be happiness when we get to be together within the presence of God.

Application
Sundays are my favorite days. Not only do I get the chance to praise God corporately with my FH family but also the opportunity to just hang with these great people. I don't believe the Word is just describing a church service though. The Bible also tells us "that where 2 or 3 are gathered together in His name He is there also." I believe that the happiness should be evident even when meet down town, in our homes or at work with other believers. The Holy Spirit in each of us longs for the fellowship of other Christians.

Prayer
Bring us together in love and joy. Let our unity be evident to a world that is desperately looking for hope. Allow our joy to be a drawing card to the lost. Amen

Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

Observation
This is one of my favorite principles of God. Sowing and Reaping. It is an easy concept to understand. Put a few seeds in the ground and receive an entire crop. We see it in nature all the time. Acting on the principle is much harder then understanding the principle.

Application
God has blessed me as I have put this into practice in some areas of my life. He has never failed to give a rich harvest for just a little sowing. I need to find new areas that I can apply this principle to. I know that it will open up harvest opportunities that I never knew existed.

Prayer
Show me the areas of my life that I haven't allowed you into, that I may apply your principles to. I know the harvest is great and that only workers are needed. Let me be one of the workers. Amen

Galatians 4:9 But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you again turn toward the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage?

Observation
We may know God but does He know us? If we are in the greatest relationship of all time why would we want to return to something much less?

Application
Big difference in knowing God and having an intimate relationship with Him.If I continue to contend for that relationship the grass will never seem greener in a lesser pasture. If I am focused on this relationship I will not return to the bondage of a sinful life.

Prayer
May my eyes be staid upon you. As the psalmist said "let me be like a deer who pants for water" as I seek you God. Let me stay under your protection. Amen

Job 27:5 Till I die I will not put away my integrity from me.

Observation
After all he has been through Job says that he will keep his integrity even until his death.

Application
This is quite a statement for us who live in a time of taking the easy way out. Ours is not an age of conviction but of convenience. We need contracts and attorneys to make sure we keep our word. The success of my ministry is based not on how many people I reach (that is up to God) but rather on how well I keep my integrity. If I do what is right God's promises are faithful and enough for me.

Prayer
Lord do not allow me to fall into a temptation that would cause me to lose my integrity. Help me to always do what is right and not what is just easier. May I put YOU to the test and trust your Word.

Mark 14:9 "Assuredly I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her."

Observation
An act of sacrifice. An act of true worship. Giving without wanting anything in return. Jesus says that it will be preached about forever.

Application
True worship and love is what Christ is looking for. This woman gave more than she could afford. In a place it wasn't appreciated by those attending and in a time when few knew that He was the Savior. It wasn't about the gift, place or time but the attitude that she came before Him and the recognition of who He was. I need to have the same attitude.

Prayer
I love you Lord. Help me to to love unconditionally. Help me sacrifice what is most precious to me for your sake. Help me worship as this woman worshipped. Amen

Scripture
Mark 11:30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first command.

Observation
All the teaching that Jesus did for three years can be boiled down to this verse. Love Him with our entire body, soul and spirit. To do it right means leaving nothing behind but giving it all to Him.

Application
It is a continual work to accomplish this. A daily decision to die to ourselves each new dawn. Die to the desire to love something more then God. AS we allow His spirit to work within us to accomplish this all other important matters will be taken care of. That is unconditional trust in our Savior.

Prayer
Father help me to die to my desires this day and only love you. As I read your word and spend time with you let my love grow. Teach me your ways, give me your thoughts let me stand on your precepts. Let our relationship to be seen by those in need of the same.

Mark 4:24 Then He said to them, "Take heed what you hear. with the same measure you use, it will be measured to you; and to you who hear, more will be given.

Observation
A responsibility comes along with what God gives us. There should be a continual growing process; the more we use the more we get, the we get the more we use.

Application
God has blessed me so much. I have a responsibility to use those blessings wisely. Pass them along. If I begin to hoard them I am being contrary to the plan of God. I am to be a conduit of His blessings, whether it be resources, knowledge, energy or time. As I allow these to flow through me He will enlarge the capacity of said conduit.

Prayer
God help me to know and be obedient as to what to pass on, to whom I should pass it on and how to pass it on. Enlarge my capacity as I am obedient to you.

Scripture
Mark 1:35 Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.

Observation
Jesus rose early in the morning and prayed to the Father. He spent time alone with God. The text capitalizes He, meaning that the Son part of the God-head spent time with the Father part of the God-head.

Application
If Jesus Christ needed to spend time with God how much more do I? He set an example for me in everything He did. His ministry started with prayer, was administered by prayer and ended with prayer.

Prayer
I pray for the discipline to spend time with God the Father as Jesus did. Let my ministry be baptized in prayer. Amen
